Fosun Foundation Art Center model
An iconic cultural building model with a movable, layered mechanical facade — the bronze curtain of tubes shifts just like the real building on the Bund.
The Fosun Foundation building on Shanghai's Bund is wrapped in a moving curtain of bronze-coloured tubes that slide to reveal the galleries behind. A static model would miss the point, so our mechanics department built a working miniature of the curtain: layers of individually finished tubes that move on a concealed drive.
The tubes were cut and finished by hand, the core building printed and assembled behind them, and the whole piece mounted on a white cylindrical plinth that conceals the drive and controller.
